From Jill Jungers, Dean of Ultimate Challenge Camp:Fifteen years ago, I became involved in camp leadership. Ultimate Challenge has been a part of my life from the time I was born. I have attended as a camper and as a counselor. I personally know what a difference it makes. Thousands of lives have been changed, and hearts led to Christ through this camp. Many young people have made the decision to make their careers in ministry and church work as a result of being at Summer Assembly. I couldn't sit by and let that fade away. I became a co-dean and with our wonderful, dedicated, energetic staff, we began the process of rebuilding. These young people on our staff love Christ and are dedicated to making UC a camp where all youth can experience God's love and become faithful disciples. We are on a roll. |
Ultimate Challenge, formerly Summer Assembly, has always had an evangelistic focus. Its message is that by God's grace and everlasting love, we are saved by His son Jesus Christ. This camp calls youth to know and love God or to re-dedicate their lives to Him. It doesn't end there. They are challenged, as new beings in Christ, to go out into the world and make a difference, the ultimate challenge as a Christian; thus the name change from Summer Assembly to Ultimate Challenge (see camp history for more information).
We welcome all youth and young adults ages 12- to 17 for our Camper program, and those 18 to 24 for our Rooters program, regardless of their race, faith, or denomination.
Our second purpose as a camp is to nurture Christian youth leaders. We will be running a 'camp within a camp' where post-high school youth will be involved in training workshops and still be a part of Ultimate Challenge. They will have various opportunities throughout the week to be involved in supervised, guided leadership roles, similar to student teaching. Like the 12 apostles, they will learn how to help and guide others, led by the Spirit, using their lives and their faith as shining examples of Christ's love.
This briefly explains what Ultimate Challenge is all about. Of course, like anything beautiful, inspiring, and awesome, it needs to be experienced first-hand. We hope you will step out and take the Ultimate Challenge. Join us for a life changing experience.
